About the workshop
First and foremost, the term “Modern Calligraphy” is a calligraphy style where all boundaries of traditional calligraphy are broken in order to form our own unique and beautiful style. It is most commonly seen on wedding signages, invitation cards and envelopes, murals, cards, prints and even stickers.
It doesn’t matter if you have poor handwriting or penmanship, Calligraphy is the art of drawing letters. This workshop class will cover everything you will need to know to kickstart your calligraphy journey.
In this workshop, we will be primarily using nibs and ink. Once you have learned how to use the Pointed Pen, you will be able to dive into other traditional calligraphy styles with the pointed pen (Copperplate/Engrossers, Spencerian).
With my guidance through the fundamentals, and your practice and dedication, you will soon be able to create lots of beautiful personalized calligraphy items for your friends and family. In this class, I will answer all your questions and provide you with my undivided attention.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS CLASS
Beginners Modern Calligraphy:
Experience level: This is a beginner-friendly class with no experience in calligraphy or penmanship required.
Curriculum:
Introduction to tools and supplies needed for pointed pen calligraphy
Learn how to prepare your nib and tools for calligraphy
Comparison between Modern Calligraphy and Traditional Calligraphy
Warm up exercises, followed by basic strokes and drills
Lowercase letters
Lowercase letter variations
Connecting letters to words
Practicing tricky connections and common ligatures
Intermediate Modern Calligraphy:
Experience level: Beginners Modern Calligraphy is a prerequisite for this class.
Curriculum:
Warm up exercises, followed by advanced strokes and drills
Uppercase letters
Uppercase letter variations
Connecting uppercase letters to lowercase letters
Simple flourishing that you can add to your letters
